On the most recent episode of the Restless Natives with Martin Compston & Gordon Smart podcast, frontman of Scottish band Travis, Fran Healy says he inspired David Beckham’s famous “Hoxton Fin” mohawk.

Known for soft rock hits including “Sing” and “Why Does It Always Rain On Me?”, the frontman appeared to promote the band’s upcoming 10th studio album L.A. Times.

Healy stated that prior to Beckham dying his hair blond and adopting the faux mohawk style, he had met “him and Posh Spice [...] coming out of Toys “R” Us [...] in the car park” leaving with a large amount of toys.

Having just adopted the new haircut himself, Fran Healy says “I’ve never seen so many toys in my life”, prior to their short exchange in 2002.

After their chance meeting, Healy saw Beckham with the same haircut as he played for England at the 2002 World Cup: “Two weeks later, he had the cut. Yet he then went off and this haircut became – Everyone had it.”

The “Hoxton Fin” was a popular haircut comprising a gelled mohawk, during the period 2000-2004, most notably in Shoreditch, a district of London.
